Gangway Access Configuration App
Application
Working with Rob Rhyne Multimedia once again for this project, I was tasked with creating another configuration and ordering application for a well established American fabrication company. The application had to work on both ipad (for the sales representatives) and the web (for headquarter admin access). The idea was to allow the sales reps to easily configure the available products whilst with the prospective customers and instantly give both the visual feedback and highlight any construction issues, when the orders were complete the data is uploaded along with schematics and a customer copy PDF is also automatically generated.
This application was completed with Unity 3d and like the previous platform access project had both complex rules and needed a automatic fitment process to fit the gangways to a number of differently shaped vehicles with various configurable dimensions, this along with the number of alterable gangway parts made the tack quite tricky, also our measurements needed to be exact to within a 8th of an inch. The automatic schematics generation was an equally complex part of this application.

Freelancing as Lead 3d Developer for Rob Rhyne Multimedia, we were tasked with creating a configuration and ordering application for a well established American fabrication company. The application had to work on both ipad (for the sales representatives) and the web (for headquarter admin access). The idea was to allow the sales reps to easily configure the available products whilst with the prospective customers and instantly give both the visual feedback and highlight any construction errors, when the orders were complete the data is uploaded along with schematics and a customer copy PDF is also automatically generated.
The task was completed using Unity3d due to its ease of use and instant deployment to our target platforms. Some of the most intrinsic difficulties in creating this app were connection logic and implementation of a rules system, and getting useful measurements to display in the 2D schematic views with out overlaying graphics and conflicting with other measurements.

Simulated Performing Arts Creative Environment
Simulated Performing Arts Creative Environment
Application
In 2011 I found myself working on a JISC funded project titled SPACE an acronym for simulated performing arts creative environment, the aim of which was to create an application that allows performing arts students and possibly industry professionals to quickly mock up a theatre venue, stage set, lighting rig, place rag-doll actors and some special effects within the 3d application environment. The application would not only allow users to import their own 3d models, save project files, edit materials and create basic geometry but to also cue lighting, rag-doll positions and scenery movement creating a playback feature with which they could step through and convey their ideas to others. Most importantly the application would allow student users to learn, develop and educate themselves in the practicalities of theatre design, which under normal circumstances due to health and safety, cost and resource implications they often receive little experience.

Interactive Media
Working closely with colleagues at Doncaster College, Fusedworks identified a number of key areas/curriculum that would be better understood, taught and conceived with interactive educational media. The aim of the projects would be to benefit not only Doncaster college staff and students but attract interest from external companies and other academic/training establishments.
The Health and Safety in Construction Project, I took an existing paper based “spot the mistake” exercise and turned the idea into a 3d interactive scene which would allow users or groups to identify the mistakes within the scene with much more accuracy and from a more realistic point of view. The original idea for the second stage of development, would have been to allow users to mark/highlight the health and safety problem areas and compare their findings with set answers which can also be adapted and modified by trainers, lecturers or industry professionals.

Building Services Engineering (Yhelln)
Building Services Engineering (Yhelln)
Interactive Media
When approached in June 2009 to create an educational learning application that would help building services engineering students grasp the basic concepts of domestic electric/gas supply, heating systems, control systems and sound reflectance/ absorbtion I knew I was in for an intense time of programming.
With the aim of meeting five learning objectives from the foundation degree in building services at Grimsby college, the client team and I decided upon showing as many of the concepts in one environment as possible. The piece was built as both a standalone application and a web-ready version so that both lecturers and students could explorer the concepts as a group or in their own time, the piece could also be viewed in either 2d or in a 3d stereoscopic format should the facilities be available.
The piece allows the user to:- look at the construction of an underfloor heating system; look at the different properties of an insulated external wall construction; examine the parts of a combi-condensing boiler, see the condensing and heat transfer take place, examine the flow of hot water through both underfloor and radiator based heating systems; examine electrical supply, fuseboxes and different circuits and much more.
The hardest part of the project was modelling the boiler internals and showing the flow of heat from the boiler, but after 12-14 weeks of work all was complete and the project deemed a success in terms of conveying some of the more difficult to understand concepts to the students in a simpler and clearer manner.
